DRAG RACING AT CASINO AIRPORT ON MARCH 27

One-eighth mile drag racing is coming to Casino.

The first official meeting will be held on Saturday, March 27 in a new and exciting era of motor sport for the region.

Lismore Speedway promoter David Lander is the man in the driving seat for the exciting project.

He and the Richmond Valley Council have reached an agreement for drag racing to be conducted at Casino Airport.

Lander plans to host fixtures at the site up to five times per year.

In addition to the March 27 official opening, racing will also be held on Sunday, May 23.

Drag racing in the Northern Rivers area became reality after Lander was contacted by car clubs from as far south as Taree and Brisbane in the north, typifying the enormity and enthusiasm of drag racing.

Initial approaches to Richmond Valley Council to host drag racing in Casino were well received by councillors and the whole project was met with positive feedback.

The announcement of one-eighth mile drag racing at Casino Airport has been widely acclaimed and welcomed by many.

Meanwhile, the enthusiasm for this form of car racing is typified in this region as approaches already have been made for one-eighth mile drag strips to be built at Stanthorpe and Gunnedah. Lander also understands an application will be made to local council in Taree for a one-eighth mile drag strip.

“Drag racing is a great avenue for young people to learn how to control a car in a variety of situations. It also gives the participants the opportunity to race in a properly controlled, heavily supervised and strictly governed environment,” Dave Lander said.

One-eighth mile drag racing at the Casino Airport venue is open to competitors of all ages with a variety of classes in action under the sanction of chief controlling body, ANDRA.

The go-ahead for one-eighth mile drag racing at Casino Airport represents a great initiative to help get young people off the roads and highways in pursuit of their love of cars and speed.

“I also want to acknowledge the New South Wales government's Department of Sport and Recreation for their co-operation and approval of licensing for drag racing in this area.

“I want to especially thank the Richmond Valley Council who have been a delight to work with throughout the planning stages,” Lander acknowledged.
